Ostrava in the Czech Republic is a friendly place for bodybuilding. 1992 European Championships was the first big international bodybuilding event hosted by Ostrava and staged at the same venue area– CEZ Arena, named Culture and Sport Palace at those times. CEZ Arena has the capacity of 10 000 viewers and is well-known in Central Europe for many world-class events organized there, like “Gold Track Shoe” or “Czech Dance Open”.
The Championships had its special dimension: the IFBB International Congress held in conjunction with the Championships was the Electoral Congress and historical one as the IFBB founder and president, Mr. Ben Weider, decided to retire.
The bodybuilding and fitness community elected, in a fantastic unanimous emotion, its new president, from Spain,
Dr. Rafael Santonja, long-time executive assistant and adviser to Mr. Ben Weider and the first and current president of the EBFF.
President Dr Rafael Santonja said to the viewers in his opening speech – “Your country is origin of a modern physique culture.” This is a very short and actual summary of the Czech society physical activity. Czech Federation never met troubles with composing of their national team to any EBFF or IFBB international championships and, telling the truth, they would always enter more than one team. Czech people simply love to be in shape, strong and fit.
