On September 18, 2005, IFBB President Ben Weider was promoted to the rank of Honorary (H) Colonel in the Canadian Army during a ceremony at the Regiment Headquarters, Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada. Serving as the presiding officer was Major General (Ret.) M.A. McInnis.

Colonel (H) Weider replaced the former Commander of the 62nd Regiment, Colonel (H) Gerard Dufresne, who is widely recognized and respected for serving in the Canadian military for over 50 years. Holders of the honorary (H) title play a vital role in a regiment as they ensure military traditions are continued, promote the units identity, serve as mentors, and advise the Commanding Officer on issues related to the unit.

Attending this ceremony rich in military tradition were Weider's son, Mr. Eric Weider, Mr. Jacques Duchesneau, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Air Transport Authority, Mr. Rejean Guadreault, Mayor of Shawinigan, and over 200 members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

"At 18 years old, I served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. Over sixty years later, I am extremely honoured to have this opportunity to continue serving my country and carry on my association with the dedicated personnel assigned to the 62nd Field Artillery Regiment,” Weider said.

As a sign of gratitude for his contributions and many years of distinguished military service, the regimental band, under the command of musical director Lieutenant Luc Darveau, played the inspiring Ben Weider March. To hear the march, visit:
