Canadian Honors Bestowed Upon Ben Weider, C.M., C.Q.,Ph.D.


A Brief History

Throughout his lifetime, Ben Weider has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors as can be attested to by reading his Curriculum Vitae.

The Order of Canada

In 1975, Ben Weider received the highest award that can be bestowed upon a citizen of Canada - the Order of Canada.

The Order of Canada, shown below, was presented to Ben Weider in recognition of his longtime dedication and commitment towards improving the lifestyle of not only Canadian citizens but people throughout the world. A forerunner in the field of health and fitness, Ben Weider, and his brother Joe Weider, have improved the well-being of countless millions worldwide. Through innovative research, development and education, Weider nutritional products and weight training/fitness equipment have led the way in raising worldwide awareness of the benefits of a healthy and fit lifestyle.


The Order of Canada

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Ben and Joe founded the International Federation of BodyBuilders (IFBB) in 1946. Today, more than 50 years later, Ben Weider actively directs the IFBB, and its 171 national affiliates, from its headquarters on Bates Road in Montreal.

The Order of Quebec

Recently, Ben Weider was honored by the Province of Quebec. At a ceremony in Quebec City, Ben Weider was awarded the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a resident of this province - Knight of the National Order of Quebec.

The Order of Quebec, shown below, was presented by Lucien Bouchard, Premier of the Province of Quebec, and honored Ben Weider for his humane efforts, over a span of more than 50 years, in raising awareness of a healthy and fit lifestyle for all citizens of the world; for his generous and unselfish philanthropic contributions towards this aim; and for his international reputation as a Napoleonic scholar.


The Order of Quebec

Over his lifetime, Ben Weider has received many awards, including being nominated in 1984 for the Nobel Peace Prize. Although a resident of Quebec and a citizen of Canada, Dr. Ben Weider, C.M., C.Q., Ph.D., is truly a "citizen of the world".
