Ben Weider, President of the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness ( IFBB) is once again on the annual Sport Intern’s notable list of the World’s Most Influential Sports Personalities. Each year, Sport Intern, the highly respected international inside sports newsletter read by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials and members, evaluates thousands of sports figures and selects the world’s most 100 influential leaders. An impressive seven-time recipient, Weider was voted 44th on this years list. The top sports personality for 2005 is Joseph S. Blatter, President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “As a member of this distinguished list, I would like to acknowledge all of the IFBB presidents, general secretaries, competitors and fans because thanks to their boundless energy and great efforts our sport continues to grow and be a positive influence on millions of people all around the world,” said Weider. “For over 60 years, the IFBB has and continues to enthusiastically play a key role in developing friendships and cooperation among athletes by promoting friendly but highly competitive bodybuilding competitions,” said Weider. “The sport of bodybuilding continues to spread its influence and this year, I am especially pleased to announce that the IFBB will be participating in the 2006 Asian Games, in Doha, Qatar, the second largest sports event in the world after the Olympic Games. Our participation in these games allows us an opportunity to continue to share the positive benefits of bodybuilding and demonstrate the popularity of our sport to an international audience,” Weider said. The IFBB is the fifth largest sports federation in the world and a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). It is recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia and the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa . It is also recognized by and participates in the following Games: the Southeast Asia Games, the Asian Games, the South American Games, the Central American Games, the Caribbean Games, the Pan Arabic Games, the Arab Games, the South Pacific Games, the African Games, and the World Games.
