THE ATHLETES
In the Bantamweight (-65kg) class, the see-saw confrontation between two iron warriors continued as Anwar El Ammawi (Egypt) went head-to-head against Jose Carlos Santos (Brazil). Leading up to this battle, Ammawi was a 4-time World Amateur Champion ('90, '91, '96, '98); Santos had notched 3 of his own ('97, '99, '01). This win by Santos in 2002 would even the score at 4 "World Amateur Champion" titles each. Will we see these two again next year in Mumbai, India for the rubber match?
Editor's Note: Ammawi beat Santos in '98. Santos has emerged victorious in 4 events ('97, '99, '01, '02).
