Beijing’s recent selection to host the 2008 Olympic Games has motivated elite Chinese athletes to take part in intense bodybuilding programs to help enhance their overall fitness and athletic performances. However, they are not the only ones interested in the benefits of physical fitness. Throughout China, gym memberships have increased dramatically proving just how quickly bodybuilding is becoming one of the most accepted forms of exercise.

Thanks to the growing popularity of bodybuilding in China , more people are interested in weight training. They actively use the Weider Training System which is the most advanced and reliable source of bodybuilding principals in the country.

In August 2005, under the guidance of IFBB President Ben Weider, the Weider Training System was established in China. Beijing serves as the headquarters for a team of enthusiastic instructors who are in great demand throughout the country for those looking to improve their physical conditioning through a bodybuilding program. The Chinese State Sport General Administration is very cooperative and has lent their support to the Weider Training System. Leading sport officials often attend these informative seminars and are very encouraging.

Eighty percent of the Weider Training System Advanced Coaches have undergraduate degrees and have at least two years of experience in teaching fundamental bodybuilding courses. They teach basic sport physiology, anatomy, nutrition and biomechanics.

To date, the seminars have been taught in three provinces and in four large cities. As the lead trainer for this course, I am in negotiations with many schools, health clubs and government organizations to expand our seminars and our instructors are anxiously looking forward to teaching the Weider Training System all over China.

Some students are so energized by the bodybuilding lifestyle that they become instructors in their local areas and some have even become champion competitors.

Shanghai was the site for the 59th IFBB Men's World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships where Chinese bodybuilder, Quiang Cheng won the first place award in the flyweight (60kg) category. Just as exciting was Cheng receiving the highly coveted “ Most Improved Bodybuilder Award.” His success indicates the bright future Chinese athletes will enjoy during upcoming international competitions.

In addition to the information available in the Weider Training System, Muscle & Fitness (China) has been one of the premier magazines related to the bodybuilding lifestyle in China. Widely available in hotels, airports, gymnasiums and book shops, with nearly one million monthly readers, Muscle & Fitness is the leader in proving the most up-to-date information related to the bodybuilding lifestyle.

Setting realistic goals and developing an organized game plan is extremely important. Thanks to the growing popularity of bodybuilding in China, more and more people are turning to the Weider Training System - a system that has produced champions for over 50 years - as the most reliable source of advanced training information in the country,” said Weider. “From the basic trainee to the hard core competitor, the Weider Training System will definitely help them reach their bodybuilding goals.”

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank Ben Weider for his support and leadership in promoting bodybuilding and a healthy lifestyle. He has played a dominant role in raising the public awareness on the positive benefits of a bodybuilding lifestyle here in China .
