European Juniors & Masters Championships

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The first day of the Championships has passed. 145 competitors performed on the stage: 71 juniors dispersed among 9 categories and 74 masters dispersed among 10 categories. This is an absolute record in the history of this not so old event, started in 2003 in Brno, Czech Republic. The juniors classes were run in the morning session and all masters classes were included in the afternoon session, began at 15:00 and finished at 17:30.
Now, the list of top six entering the finals has been published in the lobby of the Mare Hotel and, so athletes now who should try to improve his/her shape for tomorrow finals and who already finished the contest and can eat bigger dinner this evening. 108 athletes were lucky to pass to the finals and 67 were eliminated.
The biggest teams came from Romania, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Hungary.

The Lascar Pana Sport Hall has been perfectly prepared to stage the contest. The light and sound systems were working without any problems. 20 IFBB international judges representing 9 countries worked in the panels.

IFBB President, Dr. Rafael Santonja, just returned from a gym, where he had a short workout. He was delighted, saying that the gym was an old-style one, with a plenty of iron and free weights.

Sunday will start with the anti-aging seminar by Dr. Rafael Santonja (at 9:00) and seminars for international judges and coaches by Mr. Pawel Filleborn, IFBB Judges Committee chairman. Then, the finals, at 14:30. 19 sets of medals will be distributed among the winners in 19 categories.
