BODY COLORING REVOLUTION IN THE IFBB!
NO MORE STAINING BRONZERS

by Andrew Michalak

At the recent meeting in Maastricht, just before the latest European Men’s Championships, EBFF made historical decision: no more staining bronzers on the athletes skin, no more stained attires, no more dirty bed-clothes in the hotel rooms! Decision is in good direction but we need to solve the problem how to get the proper skin color and what type of products/techniques should be used?

Many producers offer skin coloring products providing long lasting tan, especially self-tanning kits like Jan Tana „Ultra 1” or „Pro Tan Figure and Fitness Kit” or “Dream Tan Professional Self Tanning Spray”. These formulas allows you to achieve a deep dark, long lasting tan, with no streak. And you can also use the SunFX SunStation Tanning Tower to get a better background. Just before entering the stage you will have to apply the glazer only.
During the last few years bodybuilders have been trying to get darker and darker skin color for the contests. Is it really necessary? In the attached pictures we would like to show you that too dark skin is not the best possible way to show your muscle separation, definition and details.

The first test was done at the recent European Men’s Championships in Maastricht. The Jan Tana „Ultra 1” kit was offered there for €50. But athletes should remember that it is necessary to prepare the skin first (clean it, moisturize, regulate pH, exfoliate), so all manufacturers recommend to begin application of these products two to three days prior to your event to make sure you achieve the amazing color.

The test in Maastricht in classic bodybuilding: two competitors standing in the middle applied Jan Tana „Ultra 1” tan but did it in a hurry, without proper skin preparation. Despite this fact, the visual effect is quite good: the details of their muscles are better seen than in case of athletes using deep dark bronzers, where muscle details are merged and blurred.

Second from left athlete is brighter but his muscles are better seen that on the very dark competitors.

Here we can see athletes with different skin colors: from very dark (left) to lighter (second from right). It seems that competitor in the middle presents optimal skin color.
