2012 ARNOLD CLASSIC EUROPE
THIS YEAR IN THE HUGE MADRID ARENA, DESIGNED FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES!

by Andrew Michalak

Following the very successful first edition of Arnold Classic Europe, this year event will be held in a very special place: the sunny heart of the 'lungs' of Madrid the Casa de Campo a large park located five minutes walk from the central Plaza de Espaa. There are many separate multipurpose buildings / pavilions spread out over 67 hectares what creates a perfect conditions to run contests in over 20 different sport disciplines, from strength and body beauty sports (bodybuilding, fitness, athletic fitness, crossfit, powerlifting, strongmen, armwrestling) through martial arts (boxing, kickboxing, judo, karate, wrestling) to gymnastics, football, fire fighting and police competition. The whole complex was built as a part of the facilities planned for the Madrid 2012 Olympic Games bid and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Physique sports will be run in the famous Madrid Arena, with capacity up to 12 000 viewers! This is much bigger venue than the last years Palacio de Congressos. In the meantime, Madrid Arena hosted European Basketball Championships, WTA Tennis Championships and many tennis Masters Series events, to mention the biggest ones. And the second key venue will be Palacio de Cristal (Glass Pavilion) with 20 000 m2 exhibition area, so the fitness industry exhibitors will be able to spread their wings. Some parts of the sport events will take place in this Pavilion too.

And there will be no problem with meals: Casa de Campo recently opened the Gastronomy Path (Paseo de la Gastronoma) which offers an excellent range of food for exhibitors and visitors. And additional attraction for our youngest guests: children's play areas.

This years Arnold Classic Europe will offer more attractions intended for the physique sports enthusiasts:

Three IFBB Pro League events, with prize money of US $ 150 000 in total:
- Mens bodybuilding
- Womens fitness
- Womens figure

Moreover, some big names are already known! World top pro bodybuilder Kai Greene (3rd place at the 2011 Mr. Olympia and Sheru Classic), the strongest bench presser among bodybuilders (306 kg RAW) Ben White and the first Arnold Amateur Bodyfitness winner Giada Simari, who then turned pro, already confirmed their participation. New names will be published each next week.

Professional version of the IFBB physique sports will be the highlight of the whole event; however the amateur section will be a very big part too, including mens and womens bodybuilding, mens and womens fitness, womens bodyfitness and bikini, as well as mens and womens athletic fitness. This is a new sport at Arnold Classic Europe and a new quality: athletes with perfectly built bodies performing strength and endurance tests! How many dips and how many chin-ups will they perform for maximum number of reps? Where is the human genetic barrier? If you want to know, come and see.
The next new sport discipline at ACE will be mens fitness. Recent years showed that athletes in this sport present the highest quality and attractiveness, performing taking-a- breath-away routines. 2012 ACE will take place one week after the IFBB World Womens Championships, so we can expect all top world womens stars coming to ACE in perfect shape. Most of them will go directly from Poland to Spain.
And absolutely newest categories: mens and womens athletic physique something between bikini fitness and bodyfitness. More details soon.

Important notice for competitors planning to participate: all entries must be sent through IFBB affiliated National Federations. Participation of athletes from any country is unlimited! The deadline for sending Final Entry Form is October 1st, 2012. The IFBB Registration Fee for athletes is EUR 150 per competitor. There is no registration fee for delegates and officials. Each athlete has to possess the IFBB International Card. If doesnt have this Card yet, will have to purchase it at the registration (price: EUR 30 per year).
Organizers are not responsible for teams accommodation. National Federations should directly book rooms in the hotels for their teams. Madrid offers a great choice of accommodation possibilities. The most convenient ones are mentioned in the ACE Inspection Report available at the IFBB website: www.ifbb.com

The number of categories opened to the IFBB amateur athletes at these Championships has increased to 33! There will be 17 bodybuilding categories and 16 different fitness classes, including fitness, bikini fitness, bodyfitness and athletic fitness.

THE TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
All participants have to come to Madrid latest October 11th, 2012 (Thursday). Registration will be run the whole day, from 10:00 to 20:00 (10:00 AM to 8:00 PM). Registration will be run for all categories simultaneously, so you will be able to register as a team, not by separate categories as at the other IFBB international championships.
Most of categories will be run from the beginning (elimination and semifinals) to the end (finals and victory ceremony) at one session. The only exception is fitness, where the semifinals and finals will be run at different sessions.
Athletic fitness required a special training equipment for strength and endurance tests, so it will have its separate schedule: semifinals will take place on Friday (womens 163 cm and mens 175 cm classes) and Saturday (womens +163 cm and mens +175 cm classes) and finals (top six) on Sunday (all classes). To avoid any problems and/or misunderstandings check the final, detailed schedule of activities after your arrival to Madrid, please.

Sunday finals will be short and top attractive, including mens bodybuilding up to 100 kg and over 100 kg categories as well as both womens fitness classes (up to 163 cm and over 163 cm), intended for mainstream media, sport authorities, politicians and average spectators but for us, physique sports enthusiasts and fans, the whole ACE Festival will be very emotional and excited.

Based on the success of the first out-of-America Arnold Sport Festival in Madrid last year, the promoters: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja and Arnold Classic founder James Lorimer prepared even bigger and more attractive edition this year. Including all IFBB physique sports and 20 other sports it will be the biggest multisport event in Europe this year, except the London Olympic Games. And for the fitness industry the biggest possibility to present your products, concepts and activity.
Europe hadnt had such great possibilities in the past. Now has had, so dont miss it and be a part of this top attractive sport and healthy lifestyle festival !!!
