2017 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 4

The final day of the 2017 European Championships was devoted to two divisions: Fitness and Bikini-Fitness, with Muscular Men’s Physique interspersed between them.
The biggest fitness star was the youngest participant: Michaela Pavleova of Slovakia. Pavleova began to compete in fitness as a child, participating in the first World Children Fitness Championships in 2011 in Bratislava, then disappeared from the stage but didn’t stop training. Now, being 16 years old, returned as a junior and… won all possible titles: junior up to 163 cm class, junior overall, women up to 163 cm class and women overall! Incredible series of victories. Her biggest challenger was her team-mate of the same age, Anna Hepnerova, who also participated in the 1st World Children Championships in Bratislava. They were tied 23:23 in the junior class. A girl born in 2001: Kristina Juricova (Slovakia) dominated the tall class, over 163 cm in junior and women’s open divisions. She has also begun to compete in 2011 as a child. Their successes have proved how efficient it is to work with kids at early stages and how determined and persistent they are in their desire to achieve the sport perfection.
In the absence of former champions: Nazar Kharkhun and Fedir Khashalov (both of Ukraine), the next Ukrainian star, Serhii Hordieiev, replaced them successfully, winning the Men’s Fitness by 1 point over new Russian star Evgeny Shobik.

Muscular Men’s Physique last year’s winner Valentin Petkov (Bulgaria) focused on masters class only and also won. New Muscular Men’s Physique champion came from Portugal. His name is Fabio Rodrigues and he moved up from 7th place at the 2016 Arnold Europe.

Bikini Fitness Junior and Masters categories were so exciting due to the fact that many of them play a key role in women’s (seniors) categories as well. An interesting example is Anna Baikina (Russia), 21, who in Junior Bikini up to 160 cm category finished in 4th place only but won the Women’s Bikini up to 158 cm class.
On the other side of the age scale, Oksana Oleinik (Russia), 36, won both Master Women’s Bikini and Women’s Bikini up to 172 cm category. In the overall category Oleinik placed 3rd, far ahead of 15 years younger Baikina. It shows that women are able to be in comparable, top body condition from 20 to 40 years old or even longer.

Two 2016 continental champions returned and regained the titles: Oksana Brygidyr (Ukraine) in 169 cm class and Natalia Lugovskih (Russia) in +172 cm category. Both were less successful at the 2016 World Championships in Bialystok, so they came to confirm their top sport quality. Brygidyr won the 2016 overall title but in Bialystok lost to new Russian star Iuliia Romanova. Both met once again and Brygidyr regained the title in 169 cm category, while Romanova finished 3rd, behind new Ukrainian star Albina Ustymenko, 21, who also won silver medal in juniors. By this, Brygidyr has done something very spectacular: won the European crown 3 times in a row! But failed to regain the overall title, finishing 4th this time.
These Championships were much more lucky for Natalia Lugovskih, who not only repeated her victory in the tallest class, over 172 cm, but won the overall title as well. Nice success after her 4th place at the Worlds in Bialystok. Less successful performance of 2015 overall winner Kseniia Sheveleva (Russia) who was a bit off finishing in the 5th position.
In general, Women’s Bikini Fitness division was dominated by Russia (5 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze medals) and Ukraine (2 gold and 4 silver medals), what means that these both countries won 71% of all medals. Gifted girls search system is probably a key point but then these girls must be adequately trained and prepared to the contest. All links in this chain must be done in the best possible way and these both countries are the best in performing this job.
To summarize: Russia, Ukraine and Slovakia were the top three countries in the Fitness Championships; Spain, Italy and France in Bodybuilding Championships (included Men’s Physique for the first time); Slovakia, Turkey and Russia in Junior Championships and Spain, France and Russia in Masters Championships.
