Saturday was the longest day at this year’s European Championships, with over 11 hours of battle on the stage. It was devoted to 2 big divisions: Women’s Bodyfitness and Men’s Physique accompanied by Women’s Physique.
In Bodyfitness block 2 categories were won by new, rising stars and 2 by well-known, experienced stars. Olena Chumakova (Ukraine) was the 2014 European Championships overall winner and, after some less successful competition, regained the throne in a great style but first was dramatically pressed by Iuliia Kazakovtceva (Russia) in up to 168 cm class (they were tied 10:10).
Marina Chamoun (Sweden) was two-time runner-up (2014 and 2015) in masters but her third try was very successful. First, she won the Bodyfitness Masters overall title on Friday, then dominated the Women’s Bodyfitness over 168 cm category on Saturday, winning her first continental championships gold medals.
Alzbeta Petkova (Slovakia) moved up from 7th place last year to the top in 158 cm category and the 163 cm class crown went to this year newcomer Martyna Staszewska (Poland) who participated in her first contest in February, winning the Polish Novices Championships. One of the fastest sport career in the IFBB!

Larysa Sokol (Ukraine) was the brightest Women’s Physique star, winning the Masters open class first, then the Women’s up to 163 cm category (being tied 23:23 with her team-mate Nataliia Dichkovska!) as well as the overall title. Liudmila Goshko (Russia) may also be happy, wining her first gold medal (in over 163 cm category).

In Men’s Physique, two 2016 continental champions came to regain the titles. One of them, was successful, other – not. Kamran Sherko Elyasi (Finland) won, like in the previous year, the short class, up to 170 cm. Dennis Johansen (Norway) was very close to win his second continental title but failed to defend against the attack of 2015 European Championships junior overall winner Luca Biolo (Italy) who slightly won both rounds in the up to 176 cm class. Earlier, Biolo also won his second junior overall title. The most successful Men’s Physique athlete was Avni Ozyurt (Netherlands) who moved from 6th place last year up to the top position in 182 cm category and later on won the overall title (over Luca Biolo).

What’s interesting, six Men’s Physique gold medals went to six different countries: Finland, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands and Turkey. Also Men’s Physique Masters division had its great stars. Two Men’s Physique pioneers, who won their categories at the historical 2013 European Championships held at the same venue (when Men’s Physique was included for the first time): Valentin Petkov (Bulgaria) and Robin Balogh (Hungary) won their masters categories this year. In the Masters overall, they were outpointed by Rui Ferreira (Portugal) who also participated in the inaugural continental championships.

On Sunday, the last accent of this year’s European Championships: all Bikini Fitness categories as well as finals of Men’s and Women’s Fitness classes.
