The second day of this year’s European Championships was mainly devoted to Men’s Bodybuilding, but not only. It started with a new IFBB sport division: Women’s Wellness Fitness. Run as an open category, attracted 17 pioneers of this sport in the continent, who created IFBB standards for this new division. The first historical champion, Gentiana Beqa, came from Kosovo and it was a double sensation as she also won the first historical gold medal for this youngest European country. This medal was presented to her by a special guest

The other women’s division run on this “men’s day” was Women’s Masters Bodyfitness. Following her 2nd silver medals in 2014 and 2015, Marina Chamoun (Sweden) finally placed at the top in 35-44 age category. Moreover, she also won the overall title. The older class, over 45 years, was dominated by former world fitness champion Olga Vologh (Russia), who by 1 point dethroned last year champion Carina Isaksson (Sweden).

Men’s Bodybuilding Masters had new age divisions, with five-year intervals but one open category, which was won by 40-44 years over 90 kg champion Rafal Tasiemski (Poland). Juan Francisco Martin (Spain) was the only 2016 champion who regained the title but now in 45-49 years up to 80 kg category. Jesael Leveau (France) placed at the top of the 40-44 years up to 90 kg category and it was his second gold medal at these Championships after his triumph in the Mixed Pairs class (with his wife Isabelle).

Men’s Bodybuilding categories were reduced from 8 to 6. Nobody from among last year’s winners regained the title. Spain and Italy won 2 gold medals each, with 2 remaining “golds” for Lithuania and Ukraine. The overall title went to Ukrainian 100 kg category champion Volodymyr Byruk. New champion from Bulgaria with great predisposition, Nikolay Penchev, won the juniors overall title, ahead of Jose Antonio Martinez of Spain.

On Saturday more women will enter the stage (all Bodyfitness and Women’s Physique categories) as well as all Men’s Physique classes and fitness semifinals.
